This safari can be run all year round depending entirely on the specific photographic focus of the guests. However, January to March (strictly aligns with the peak Great Migration calving season in Ndutu).

Itinerary Details

Day 1 – Arrival in Arusha

Arusha is the green, bustling safari capital of Tanzania, situated at the base of Mount Meru and acting as the gateway to the Northern Circuit. It is best for resting after long international flights and exploring its towns and market to familiarize yourself with the culture.

Upon landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will meet your private transfer driver and briefer. Enjoy a smooth drive through the countryside to your hotel. Spend a relaxed evening preparing for the adventure ahead, and enjoying a welcome dinner.

Day 2 – Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park is a dramatic park renowned for its massive elephant family herds and ancient, giant baobab trees that frame the horizon. It is also renowned for abundant bird species including the Palearctic migrants (from Europe, Asia, and North Africa) to Tanzania. It is best for low-angle elephant tracking and capturing silhouettes against golden light.

Following an early breakfast, you will embark on a scenic overland drive to Tarangire National Park. Arrive in time for an afternoon game drive, tracking wildlife through the golden afternoon light as they gather near water sources. Settle into your camp for your first night in the Tanzanian bush.

Day 3 – Tarangire Photography Safari

The Tarangire River ecosystem is the lifeline of the park, drawing dense numbers of seasonal wildlife, predators, and birds to its banks. It is best for action photography and capturing sweeping environmental wildlife compositions.

Wake up before dawn to catch the softest morning light. Qamara will position your private vehicle along the Tarangire River to capture elephant herds drinking and crossing the waters. Spend the day working on your framing, tracking seasonal movement, and adjusting to the changing African light.

Day 4 – Walking Safari & Night Game Drive in Tarangire

The undisturbed wilderness areas of Tarangire offer an intimate look at Africa’s smaller ecosystems and nocturnal wildlife that are completely invisible by day. It is best for macro photography and capturing hidden nocturnal behavior.

Start the morning on foot accompanied by an armed ranger, shifting your photographic lens to focus closely on dung beetles, local flowers, insects, and fine macro details. Return to camp to rest and edit your images during the midday heat. After sunset, head back out for a night game drive, using specialized spotlights to document nocturnal hunters.

Day 5 – Tarangire to Ngorongoro Conservation Area (Via Mto wa Mbu)

The Ngorongoro Highlands feature cool, high-altitude landscapes, rolling green hills, and traditional Maasai lands. It is best for travel landscapes and culturally rich portrait photography.

Enjoy breakfast before driving from Tarangire toward the lush Ngorongoro Highlands. Stop at Mto wa Mbu for a local lunch and short village visit, partake in a respectful Maasai cultural experience. Qamara will assist you with proper lighting and positioning to capture striking, storytelling portraits of the community members. Afterwards continue driving to your lodge in the highlands to relax and enjoy crater views at sunset.

Day 6 – Ngorongoro Crater Photography Safari

The Ngorongoro Crater is a massive, unbroken volcanic caldera acting as a natural haven for 25,000 large animals, including big tuskers and rare black rhinos. It is best for dramatic low-mist landscapes and close-range Big Five portraits.

 Execute a strict, early-morning descent down into the crater floor to beat the crowds and catch the rising sun. Spend the day tracking lions, spotted hyenas, small desert cats, and giant bull elephants across the crater floor. Drive along the soda lakes to photograph flocks of pink flamingos before ascending back to the crater rim.

Day 7: Ngorongoro → Namiri Plains (Eastern Serengeti)

After breakfast transfer by road or light charter fly into the boundless, iconic grasslands of the Eastern Serengeti (Namiri Plains). It is a Remote eastern Serengeti known for high predator density and excellent cheetah sightings. The landscape opens to wide grasslands and scattered kopjes; enjoy an afternoon game drive focused on predators and open‑plain compositions.

Days 8–10: Exploring Eastern Serengeti (Namiri Plains)

Namiri Plains is a highly secluded region of the Eastern Serengeti that was closed for twenty years to protect big cats, creating an unparalleled predator haven. It is best for high-speed cheetah tracking, lion pride interactions, and clean background predator portraits.

Over these two days, your schedule is tailored around light and behavior. Qamara will expertly maneuver the vehicle to line up clean angles of cheetahs sprinting, lions lounging on rocky kopjes, and leopards hidden in trees. Midday hours are reserved for lunch breaks, enjoying camp amenities and backing up storage files and reviewing camera settings.

Day 11: Namiri Plains → Ndutu (Southern Serengeti)

After breakfast transit by land or air to the short-grass plains of Ndutu. Ndutu is Heart of the calving season, newborn wildebeest, intense predator activity and seasonal lakes. The landscape gradually shifts to short‑grass plains, the calving grounds of the Great Migration. Picnic lunch en route; afternoon arrival and first migration‑focused game drive.

Days 12–14: Exploring Ndutu Migration Area

Ndutu sits perfectly between the Southern Serengeti and Ngorongoro boundaries, hosting the vast calving grounds of the Great Migration. It is best for photographing newborn wildebeest, massive herd formations, and raw predator-prey combat.

For three full days, you will dive into the heart of the migration herds. Use the vehicle’s low-angle capabilities to capture intimate shots of newborn calves standing for the first time. Qamara will track opportunistic hyenas, cheetahs, and lions targeting the herds, allowing you to capture powerful, fast-paced action sequences.

Day 15 – Fly from Ndutu back to Arusha Airport

Enjoy a final breakfast in the bush before transferring directly to the Ndutu Airstrip for your scheduled domestic flight back to Arusha airport. Arusha town welcomes you back for your final transition, offering a tranquil mountain lodge environment to decompress. It is best for post-safari relaxation.

Upon landing, you will have a hot lunch and you can check in into your day room (optional for guests will late international departure flights). Or proceed with the transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport for your international flight home.

  • Weight Limits on Flights: Internal flights utilize small bush planes with strict weight restrictions 15 kg (33 lbs.) per passenger. Soft-sided duffel bags are required.
